Crossed the plains and arrived in Utah in 1853.
Moved to Mill Creek and with his brother David Calder bought 110 acres of land, which would be known as "Calder's Park" - the first park of its kind between the Missouri River and San Francisco, providing entertainment and leisure to the first Utah residents. "Nibley Park Golf Course" stands today on the historic site in Salt Lake City.
