"Death Takes Aged Couple On Same Day - Man Goes First With Heart Attack, Shock Kills Wife - An elderly couple were found dead at their home in Richmond Township about
11 am Saturday. They were Charles L Helm, 84, and his wife, Floyd Mae, 81, of Cambridge Springs, RD1. The Crawford County coroner, Dr Sherman L Watson, said that both apparently died of a heart attack. Dr Watson placed the time of death at about 3 pm on March 20. Mr Helm was found lying in the back yard. His wife was found next to the telephone in the living room. Mrs Virginia Phillips of Cambridge Springs, RD1, a neighbor, discovered the bodies. Mrs Phillips said she became suspicious when she noticed the accumulation of mail in the Helms' mailbox. State Police of the Meadville substation, who along with the county coroner, investigated the double death, theorized that Mr Helm was stricken while working in his back yard and that Mrs Helm found him and suffered an attack in the excitement of getting a call through for assistance. Both had been under medical care for heart trouble. The Helms had lived at Cambridge Springs, RD1, about a year. A retired employe of the East Ohio Gas Co, Mr Helm was born in Warren County on Jan 9, 1875. Mrs Helm, also a native of Warren County, was born Aug 2, 1877, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Green Wallace. The Helms had been affiliated with the Youngsville United Brethern Church. They leave several nieces and nephews, among whom is John Smith of Spartansburg. Friends may call after 7 pm today at the McBride Funeral Home at Meadville where the double funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday. Interment for Mr Helm will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Union City, and for Mrs Helm in the Trimms Corners Cemetery on the Spring Creek Road (Warren County)."
