From ALLENTOWN MORNING CALL of 20 May 1902:
"A RARE OLD DEED"
"The late AUGUSTUS JARRETT*, of near Macungie, was at the time of his death some years ago, the possessor of a deed drawn 165 years ago. It is written on parchment, and bears date the 5th day of October 1737--"the tenth year of the reign of King George the Second over Great Britain, etc., and the 19th of the said Proprietaries Government," as the instrument has it. It conveyed to JOHN JARRETT, SR., the great_grandfather* of the late deceased owner of the farm, which is situated about a mile north of Macungie, of the county of Bucks (now part of Lehigh) in the province of Pennsylvania, 100 acres of land in consideration• of the sum of 15 pounds and 10 shillings (nearly $80) lawful money of Pennsylvania to them, the Penn's, John and Richard, "true and absolute proprietors and governors of the province of Pennsylvania, and counties of Newcastle, Kent and Sussex on the Delaware," paid in hand by the said JOHN JARRETT, SR., yeoman of the county of Bucks, now Lehigh. The instrument is signed by Robert Hunter Morris, lieutenant governor of the province of Pennsylvania, and was entered in the recorder's office in Philadelphia, November 13, 1755. The document is ribboned and adorned with seal and the writing is very plain and legible, not withstanding its great age. It was highly prized by its late owner--so much so that under no consideration could he have been induced to part with it. Faded relics of this kind carry us back to a period long before the republic was given its tenure of life."
*Augustus JARRETT was a son of BENJAMIN JARRETT and a grandson of JOHN JARRETT. He was a great-grandson of ISAAC JARRETT and a great-great-grandson of JOHN JARRETT SR., original owner of the deed.

(a) AUGUSTUS B. F. JARRETT - born circa 1841. He married LEVINA (WENNER) - born 1841. U.S. Census 1880 listed six children for them. According to aged newspaper clipping found, AUGUSTUS had in his possession one of his great great grand father's deeds, dated 1737. It was entered in the Recorder's Office in Philadelphia 13 November 1755. It is not known if this deed was passed on to one of AUGUSTUS' children.

Aged 66 years 29 days.
[The Allentown Morning Call, Allentown, PA, Tuesday, October 1, 1907, page 5]
August Jarrett died on Sunday afternoon at his residence, about a mile from Macungie borough, after an illness of about two weeks.
His first seizure was from dysentery, which was followed by other complications. Mr. Jarrett was one of the most industrious, skillful and prosperous farmers of these parts Several years ago he gave his farm into the charge of his son Walter and was partly retired from active work.
His death, following so soon that of his mother, who died on June 16, last, was no doubt a severe shock to his family.

The deceased was born in Lower Macungie in (30 Aug) 1841 and was therefore about 66 years (29d) of age. He was the eldest child of Benjamin Jarrett and Amelia, his wife, who was a born Gorr. His father died 23 years ago.

He was brought up on the farm on which he died, and which he accepted at the partition of his father's estate and has owned and occupied ever since. Before his ownership of the paternal acres, he lived a few years on another farm owned by his father.
He was married to a daughter (Levina) of Jonathan Wenner. She died about three years ago (1904).
He is survived by the following children: Ellen (never Married), who kept house for him at the homestead; Walter(Louise M. Sterner), residing at the homestead; Robert, (w/Clara Grey) of Philadelphia; Laura, wife of Dr.(James Thomas) Taylor of Pomeroy, Chester County; Lizzie, wife of Chas. Roedler of Lower Macungie; and Mrs.(Katie "Sallie") Kemmerer, of Salisbury.
A daughter (Mary Ann) died several years ago. The following brothers survive: C. A.(Alexander Charles) Jarrett, of East Macungie; John and William, of Philadelphia; James, of Quakertown; Oliver (S)(W) (Martha Matthews), of Emaus; Monroe, of Trumbauersville; and a sister, Annie, of New York city. One brother, Morris, has not been heard of for some time.
The funeral will take place on Next Thursday forenoon, with services at Solomon's Reformed Church and interment in the adjoining cemetery, Rev. Simon Sipple officiating.
