Daughter of Thomas Rowland and Mildred McCoy Lewis. Mother of 12 children and wife of Ransom Powell (1775-1825). Married 2 Sep 1797 in Rutherford County, North Carolina to Ransom.

In 1821 (Aug 27), she was appointed Ransom Powell's Power of Attorney.
A number of years after Ransom's death (1825), she married to John Queen 3 Jun 1832 but with a prenup contract that held both their possessions as separate for the benefit of their respective heirs.
The couple separated in 1834, with a divorce petition filed in Clarksville, Habersham, GA in Apr 1839 claiming cruelty and infidelity; the Divorce was granted 14 Oct 1840 in Clarksville.

Miriam reverted to her prior married name of Powell and remained in Clarksville until her death.

Her will (dated 29 Jan 1845) is very detailed: After the usual request to dispose of her property and real estate to the best advantage (Item 1) she lists her legatees.

$100 in gold coins for sons: William R. Powell & John M. Powell
$100 to Thomas R. Walker in trust for her daughter Mary R. Walker and Mary's heirs.
$100 to Frederick Brown in trust for her daughter Elvira Brown and her heirs.
$100 to Thomas Fayette in trust for her daughter Amanda Fayette and her heirs
$100 to Thomas B. Cooper in trust for her daughter Nancy Cooper and her heirs
$100 to Thomas Goodrum in trust for her daughter Caroline Goodrum and her children.
Item 3:
Her 15 year old slave girl Peggy is willed to William Goodrum in trust for her daughter Dorothy Goodrum.
Item 4:
In addition to above, after sale of property and payment of debts, an equal share of proceeds divided between: William R. Powell, Thomas R. Walker (for Mary R.), Francis Logan (for daughter Huldah), Thomas B. Cooper (held for her daughter Mildred "Milly" Hogue who was separated from her husband Jesse but he could've claimed possession of at least part of Milly's inheritance if it'd been paid directly to her), Frederick Brown (for Elvira), Thomas Fayette (for Amanda), Lewis Coffee (for dau Harriet E.), Thomas B. Cooper --again-- (for dau Nancy Cooper), and Thomas Goodrum (for dau Caroline).
Item 5:
Appoint William Goodrum and Thomas Fayette as executors.

Amendment to Will (Mar 4 1845) : Rescind $100 to William R. Powell and that executors get no compensation for their work.
