Rev. Lawrence E. "Larry" Schmittler, 64, Liberty, Indiana, died at 4:30 p.m. in Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Indiana of complication from a blood clot.

Services were held at the Sturm Funeral Home in Grayville, Illinois, officiated by the Rev. Verlin Smith. Burial was in nearby Oak Grove Cemetery.

Rev. Schmittler was born February 22, 1917 in Grayville, the son of Frank and Mary (Storm) Schmittler and was raised on a farm. He married Wilma I. Johnson March 19, 1938, and she survives.

He was the current pastor of both the Boston, Indiana and Hanna's Creek United Churches of Christ near Liberty. He had pastored the Congregational Christian Church in Olney from 1948 to 1954.

Other survivors include two sons, Perry (wife Sally Perkins) and David (wife Pam Walker) Hagerstown, Indiana; two daughters, Debbie (Schmittler) LaPointe (husband Al) Bensalem, Pennsylvania; Becky (Schmittler) Hunley, Olney; a brother, Jerald Schmittler (wife Carolyn Crome) and a sister, Rosa (Schmittler) Judge (husband Norman), both of Grayville; and six grandchildren, Tami, Tim, and Tony Hunley; Tracy, Jason, and Cindi Schmittler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Willard "Bill," and Ivan Schmittler.
