Wilma was born September 28, 1915, in Edwards County, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Hattie (Potter) Johnson. She had resided in Hagerstown, Indiana, since 1981. She was an active member of The Hagerstown Congregational Christian/United Church of Christ. She helped with the Nettle Creek Senior Center Meals-on-Wheels, volunteered at several area nursing homes where she played piano in her lively style for the residents and visited with them. She was a member of the Humdingers Kitchen Band of Mooreland, Indiana, delivered sermon tapes to shut-ins and sang in the choir. She assisted her first husband in pastoring several churches in Indiana and Illinois, including Newton and Olney, Illinois, and Cynthiana, Antioch (near Frankfort), Boston, and Hanna's Creek in Indiana.
Wilma is survived by her four children, Becky Hunley, of Bridgeport, IL; David Schmittler (Pam Walker) and Perry Schmittler (Sally Perkins), of Hagerstown, IN; and Debbie LaPointe (Al), of Jackson Hole, WY; six grandchildren, Tim Hunley (Stacey Hogg), Tony Hunley, Tracy Schmittler, Jason Schmittler, Cindi Conwell (Troy), and Matthew LaPointe; and grandson-in-law Kit Tracy; great-grandchildren Brennan and Jade Tracy, Kenzie and Devin Conwell, and Jonah Schmittler; step-great-granddaughter, Tiffany Woods; step-great-great-grandchildren, Dalyn and William Woods.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Lawrence E. Schmittler, whom she married in 1938. She married John (Jack) Scott in 2001, who died in 2006. She was also preceded in death by three grandchildren, Mitzie Jo and Stephen Merle Hunley, and Tami Hunley Tracy; and a great-granddaughter, Maya Lichtenfels Schmittler.
