He came to Texas (1840) as part of the Mercer Grant in a wagon drawn by oxen along with his cattle, traveling on the "Texas Trail" through Indian country. He settled in Navarro Co. on a ranch and later moved to McLennan Co. where he bought a farm. He moved his family to Hill County in 1860 and joined the Confederate Army under R.Q. Mills in 1861. He was killed in the Battle of Jonesboro while serving in the Co. A, 7th Texas Infantry and buried at Jonesboro, Georgia.
