Son of Hiram Estes and Lucy (Richardson) Estes. He married Editha Davis (Dithy) Williams about 1867 in Hill County, Texas. He joined Company A, 7th Texas Infantry, C.S.A. in Marshall, Texas which was commanded by General Hiram Granbury and served until the end of the Civil War.

E.B. Estes, a pioneer citizen of Rochester, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.T. Clark. A short funeral was held in Rochester and the burial was in Ranger beside his wife who preceded him in death. Survived by three children - Mrs. W.T. Clark of Rochester, Hiram Lee Estes of Folson, New Mexico, and W.P. Estes of Midland.
