The sudden death of Mrs Alfred Nelson, which occurred at her home west of town last Thursday afternoon, cause a severe shock to this community as soon as the news became circulated. Mrs Nelson, together with the members of her family and miss Nellie Latch, a neighbor friend, were making preparations to come to town in the evening to attend some form of social affair. She had not complained of feeling ill except that a few moments before her life expired she referred to a severe pain in her head and called for a liniment bottle. Very shortly after being given this she fell over on the bed, on which she was sitting, dead, the cause being pronounced as apoplexy. Since an operation two years ago Mrs Nelson had not been in the best of health, having frequent sick spells, although being able to be around most of the time. She was a great worker in fraternal society circles and her sad death has been greatly and universally mourned.

Minnie Cope was born near Albion, in this county, January 4, 1863. She spent her childhood always with her parents on the farm and was a teacher in the rural schools for five years. She was married to Alfred Nelson April 11, 1888. One daughter, Maude Marie, was born to them, who with the husband survives the deceased, also an aged mother, Mrs Sarah Cope of Clear Lake, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs Walter Waldo of Marshalltown and Mrs Grant Dawson of Albion; five brothers, Frank B Cope of Nelson, Nebraska, Oliver W Cope of Clear Lake, Iowa, George M Cope of Severance, Colorado, William D Cope of Kalispell, Montana and Eugene G Cope of Ruthven, Iowa, the latter being present at the funeral with the mother and two sisters.

During all her married life she lived near State Center and was highly respected by all who knew her. She was a member of Englewood Camp No 520, Royal Neighbors of America, and was a faithful worker in the society. Her many friends extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family in their sudden and so unexpected grief.

Funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev W A Galt of the Presbyterian church. There was a great out pouring of neighbors and friends, besides a large delegation from the Royal Neighbors. Interment was made in Hillside cemetery.
