VEGA - Tom Steward, 71, died Friday.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Raines, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Mr. Steward, born at Alva, Okla., was married to Helen Wilson in 1941 at Syracuse, Kan. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct medals. He moved to Vega in 1943 and farmed for Kenneth Cook until 1951. He drove a cattle truck for Leon Ledbetter until his retirement in 1981.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol Tucker of Amarillo and Glenda Jones of Ashdown, Ark.; three sisters, Letha Russ of Vega, and Lucille LaMunyon and Ida Paine, both of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
