Mary Rachel Atwater Shugart, 97, of Pueblo, Colo., was born on May 30, 1914, in Elkhart Ind., to Thomas and Flora Atwater, and passed away March 3, 2012. She married James Virgil Shugart in 1935. To this marriage, three children were born: Marvin Leroy Shugart, Donna Verlene (nee Shugart) McNally and Mary Lee (nee Shugart) Hines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Flora Atwater; five brothers, Myron, Walter, Winter, Roscoe and Clarence; two sisters, Elsie and Lillian; her husband, Virgil Shugart; two children, Marvin Leroy Shugart and Verlene McNally; and one grandson, David Hines. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Hines; two grandchildren, Kathy (Henderson) Nicholls and Michael McNally; five great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; son-in-law, Peter McNally; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many others who called her "Gram" during her lifetime. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Viewing, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. and service, 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2012. Viewing and service in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery. Online condolences, MontgomerySteward.com
