Roscoe E. Atwater, 86, of Silver City died early Thursday morning in Desert Valley Hospital of Phoenix. He was born Jan. 11, 1904 in Saint Joseph County, Mich. and had resided in Silver City for the past 25 years. He was retired from Hamilton Construction Co., where he was a welder and foreman for many years. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. and from 8a.m. to noon Monday with funeral services at 2 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. The Rev. Kenneth Schultz will officiate. Concluding services will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Nora Atwater of Silver City; four sons, Lee Atwater of Phoenix, Ervin Atwater of Carlsbad, and Dennis and Larry Atwater of Silver City; six daughters, Lola Drake, Ruby Erler and Faye Drinkard, all of Phoenix, Fern and Rita Bennett of Deming and Joyce Cummings of Silver City; a brother, Walter Atwater of Covel, Calif.; one sister, Mary Sugart of Pueblo, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Dale and Lloyd Atwater. Casket bearers will be Kesey Bennett, Mike Atwater, Gary Atwater, Glen Swartz, Lonnie West and Forrest Hammond. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.
