VEGA – Iva Mathes, 78, died Thursday in Amarillo.
Services are pending with N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Mathes, born in Alva, Okla., moved to Vega in 1926 from Wichita, Kan. She was assistant postmaster in Vega from 1953 – 1973. Her husband, Calvin Mathes, died in February, 1988. She was a member of Vega United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Ed Mathes of Amarillo; a daughter, Verda Price of Amarillo; a brother, Howard Dunning of Mesa, Ariz.; three sisters, Grace Dickinson of Alva, Okla., Rose Barnard of Oklahoma City and Irene Donahee of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
