Edward M. Mathes, 65, of Amarillo, died Saturday, May 4, 1996.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega with the Rev. Raymond Bowlin, pastor of Bushland Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.

Mr. Mathes was born in Vega. He married Leota Lucille Sturdevant in 1958 at Clarendon, and he had lived in Amarillo for the past 42 years. He graduated from Vega high School and attended Texas Christian University on a baseball scholarship. He was a pitcher for the Amarillo Gold Sox in 1954. He retired after 17 years in the Amarillo Fire Department, and he had worked as director of building operations for St. Anthony's Hospital for the past 17 years.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Stephanie Gregory and Vicki Neie, both of Amarillo; a son, Ed Mathes of Amarillo; a sister, Verda Mae Price of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

The family will be at 5616 Shady Lane and requests memorials be to St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, Texas 79176, or to Memorial Park Cemetery, P.O. Box 496, Vega, Texas 79092.
