Although the name is spelled "Houk" on the stone, many family members spelled it Houck, which is a varient spelling of the name in the geographical area.

The following was contributed without source verification:

Lawson Gurley Houk's father was George Houk, and his mother was Laura Jane KISTLER Houk. Some spell it Houk and some Houck. George Houk's father was John Wesley Houck born Oct. 14, 1842 and died April 22, 1888. Lawson, George, Laura and John Wesley are are buried at Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. George also had a son named John Wesley Houck. And I have been told that George Houk's mother was Sarah Weast Houk.

He was a son of George and Laura "Bingham" Hou(c)k, as noted on death certificate. This may or may not be an error. Lawson Gurley Houck worked in lumber and sawmilling.
