Lawson Gurley Houk's father was George Houk, and his mother was Laura Jane KISTLER Houk. Some spell it Houk and some Houck. George Houk's father was John Wesley Houck born Oct. 14, 1842 and died April 22, 1888. Lawson, George, Laura and John Wesley are are buried at Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. George also had a son named John Wesley Houck. And I have been told that George Houk's mother was Sarah Weast Houk.
He was a son of George and Laura "Bingham" Hou(c)k, as noted on death certificate. This may or may not be an error. Lawson Gurley Houck worked in lumber and sawmilling.

Houk Rites Held Today
(Lawson was born Jan. 4, 1886 and died Nov. 15, 1952)
Funeral services for Lawson Gurley Houk, 66, of Route 1, Morganton,--Silver Creek section--who died of a heart attack near his home at noon on Saturday, were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
Rites were conducted at Silver Creek Baptist Church by former pastor, Reverend Brackett. Interment was in the church cemetery.
A Burke native, Mr. Houk was born Jan. 4, 1886 and was married October 9, 1909, to the former Ardie Dale who survives.
He was the son of the late George and Laura Kistler Houk, both of Burke Co. He was engaged in sawmill and farm work during his life.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, George of Nebo and John Houk of Morganton; four daughters, Mrs. Paul Biggerstaff of Glen Alpine, Mrs. Faye Duckworth and Mrs. Hazel White, both of Morganton, and Mrs. Grace Amos of Greer, SC; two brothers, Grover Houk of Rutherfordton and John Houk of Morganton; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Clark of Lenior and Mrs. Gussie Cook of Ayden; 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
