Joe A. Houk was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 13, 1941 and was honorably discharged on January 18, 1946. Joe’s nickname was Buck. Joe's decorations and citations were: World War II Victory Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal; and American Defense Service Medal.
Battles and campaigns were: East Indies; Papua; Melbourne; and New Guinea.

Joe's siblings were: Ruth Houk Biggerstaff, John H. Houk, George W.Houk, Grace Houk Amos, Faye Houk Duckworth, and Hazel Houk White.
