Obiturary of Lemuel Packard Pierce II
Lemuel Pierce was born in Ashville, Chautaqua County, New York on January 24th, 1840 and died at the home of his son, Howard Welton Pierce, near Three Rivers, Michigan on March 3rd 1904 at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 8 days. He came to Michigan when about seventeen years of age where he worked for some time and finally settling near Three Rivers. Soon after the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted as Private in the Eleventh Michigan Volunteer Infantry and for meritorious conduct was promoted to wagon master receiving an honorable discharge near the close of the war. For about twenty-five years he was a consistant member of the Corey Lake M.P. church and was as faithful to attendance as his health would permit endeavoring to live faithful to God. During the past twenty-six years he had been afflicted with cancer and for most of the time suffered most severely yet through it all has been remarkably patient and uncomplaining. He leaves a son; Howard Welton Pierce and daughter-in-law Marie E. Bullock Pierce; two daughters; Gertrude Pierce Paton and son-in-law, Alexander and Mabel V. Pierce of Shelby, Michigan; two brothers, three sisters and many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss of him who entered the many mansions fair. The funeral services conducted at the residence by his pastor and internment in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
