Ogal H. Crane, 77, of Meta died Thursday at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospital and Clinics. He was born Jan 5, 1912, the son of David and Ollie Pendleton Crane. He was married Sept 13, 1935, in Jefferson City to Geneva Champalin who survives at the home.

He was a retired foreman in fabrics at the Century Gould Electric Company and was also a WW II Army veteran.

Survivors include: three brothers, Elmer Crane and Perry Crane, both of Meta and David Crane, Union; five sisters, Mildred Howard, Meta, Ann Carroll, Bakersfield, CA, Loraine Carroll, Marshfield, Ina Crane, Eureka and Cleo Kerns, Crestwood.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Stevinson-Mossman Funeral Home in Meta with the Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Meta Southside Cemetery.

Postscript regarding his date of birth. Ogal's World War II Draft Registration lists his date of birth as Jan. 5, 1912 and U.S. Census records for 1920, 1930 and 1950 indicates his birth would have been in 1912 based on his age shown in each census record. And his sibling David Cletas Crane was born on July 11, 1910, making it impossible for him to be born in 1911. Somehow, his year of birth on his subsequent military and social security records became 1911. And both his headstone and his military plaque show it as 1911. Unfortunately, his birth certificate or birth register to date have not been located.
