Laura's mother married twice, her second husband being Elisha Dyer of Newport, Rhode Island.

In 1913, he married Laura Patterson Swan, great-great granddaughter of William Patterson. They had one daughter and lived between 469 Walnut Street in Brookline and 135 Rhode Island Avenue, Newport.
