Andrew Robeson III (1843-1906) Andrew Robeson graduated from Harvard S. B. 1862. He served in the Civil War, was Capt. 1st N. Y. Volunteer Engineers; and Brevet Maj. U. S. A. 1865; was mustered out July 14, 1865, a member of the Mass. Militia for twenty-six years, retiring in 1902 with the rank of Lt. Col. After the war, he engaged in cotton manufacture at Fall River, Mass. from 1865-80; was special agent Census Forestry Div. 1881-82. From 1849 to 1868 he resided in Newport, R.I. then at Tiverton and after 1881 resided at Brookline, Mass. until his death.

Mr. Robeson was very greatly interested in family history, and, with one exception, was better informed on the record and history of the "Robeson" lineage, than any other of the descendants, being familiar not only with the record of his own line but also with that of most of the other lines descended from Andrew Robeson, Jr. he was always interested in the progress of the work of the Robeson genealogy, and willingly added all the information he possessed to aid in its work, while his advice was at all times cheerfully given when problems arose; in his death the genealogy lost the best of friends and counsellors, whose place it is not possible to fill.

Mr. Robeson died very suddenly, as he was entering his place of business, Aug. 18, 1906, he was in his 63rd year.

Mr. Robeson's picture with that of his grandfather will be seen opposite page 144.

Andrew Robeson III married Abby Frances Knight, a daughter of Leonard Knight and Elizabeth Curtis Johnson.
