Obituary – Richard Ray Wolverton Sr.

Richard Ray Wolverton Sr passed away peacefully surrounded by family, January 15, 2012 at 4:08pm pst in the Kaweah Delta Hospice Nursing Center, Visalia California after a brief illness.

Richard Sr was born December 2, 1954 with his twin sister Sandra Kay Wolverton to Melvin Garland Wolverton and Juanita Fay Pendleton-Wolverton at the Kaweah Delta District Hospital in Visalia, Tulare County, California, their home was in Exeter,California.

He attended grades K-12 in Exeter, California and attended church at the United Pentecostal Churchs of Exeter and Visalia. Richard married Rita J Tenhet on Jul 11, 1978. This union brought forth two children a son, Richard Ray Wolverton Jr and a daughter who was named after her Aunt, Sandra Kay Wolverton-Appel.

Richard played in a Country Western Band in the Tulare County area and also worked in construction and on oil rigs. While in the construction field he injured his back and hip and became totally disabled.

He was living in the Visalia area when his last illness was discovered. He was in hospice care 24/7 until his death.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, mother, one brother Marvin Wolverton, two sisters Ruthie Durnen and Loretta Wadlow. He is survived by one brother - Melvin Jr, three sisters – Arlyna Stewart, Betty Jean Wolverton-George and Sandra Kay Wolverton-Garner his son Richard Ray Wolverton Jr, daughter Sandra Kay Wolverton-Appel, four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, his Aunt Irelene Pendleton-Ellison of Exeter, California and Uncle Cordie Lee Pendleton Jr of Santa Clara, California.

In lieu of flowers the families wish donations be sent in Richards name to the American Cancer Society.
