Mrs. Dessie Irene Bass, age 85 of Middleton, departed this life Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at her home.

She was born in Middleton August 10, 1926 to the late Mamie Mills Bass and Robert Rufus Bass. She lived all of her life in Hardeman County and worked as a production worker at Harmon for 29 years.

Her husband, Alfred Vickers, preceded her in death August 6, 1989. An avid gardener, she loved flowers as well as making quilts and was a great cook and homemaker. She was a member of the Porter's Creek Baptist Church in Middleton.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Massey of Middleton, TN, and Geraldine Williams of Lamar, MS; four grandchildren, Kristy Holloway and husband Richard, Tammy Kiser and husband Tony, Cindy Plowman and husband Brian, and Steve Williams and wife Patsy; eleven great grandchildren, Austin Holloway, Matt Kiser, Mason Kiser, Brandi Holloway, Joey Holloway, Cheyenne Williams, Holli Williams, Megan Plowman, Blake Plowman, Brooke Bowen, and Anthony Bowen; and six sisters, Virginia Johnson of Hubbard, TX, Frances Howell of Middleton, TN, May Weathersbee of Bolivar, TN, Fay Voyles of Middleton, TN, Betty Sue Phillips of Middleton, TN, and Linda Stewart of Jackson, TN.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Vickers was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Helen Watridge; eight brothers, Dell Bass, Olion Bass, Ray Bass, Delbert Bass, Bobby Bass, Robert Bass, Travis Bass, and William Earl Bass; and her stepmother, Elizabeth Lessie Bass.
