Virginia Johnson, 97, of Hubbard, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, in Waco.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15 at First Baptist Church in Hubbard with Rev. Ricky Woodall officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday before the services at the church.

Virginia was born September 2, 1924, in Middleton, Tennessee to Robert Rufus Bass and Mamie Bell (Mills) Bass. She was raised in Tennessee and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in Memphis helping build bombers for WWII.

She met John Alva "Bo" Johnson during this time as he was serving in the military in Tennessee. They soon married and moved to Texas shortly thereafter. John died in 1951 at the age of 24 and Virginia continued to make Hubbard home for her and her young son, Alva Mason "Butch" Johnson who had been born in 1948.

She later worked for Kreditor's Manufacturing in Hubbard until it stopped production. While employed by Kreditor, Virginia was an accomplished member of their bowling team and won many trophies for the company.
Virginia was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church of Hubbard and served as Sunday School secretary for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and many brothers and sisters and half-brothers and sisters including Dessie Vickers, Helen Watridge, Faye Voyles, Dell Bass, Roy Bass, Olion Bass, Robert Bass, Delbert Bass, Bobby Bass, William Earl Bass, and Travis Bass.

Survivors include son, Butch Johnson of Hubbard; numerous nieces and nephews and several half-sisters, Frances Howell, May Weathersbee, Betty Phillips, Linda Stewart, and other extended family members.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Pierce, Thomas Walker, Gerald Sledge, Bob Batton, Dennis Odom, Gary Johnson, John Batton, Joe Herd and Dobber Choate.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scooter Choate, Paul Morris, Leonard Coker, Kenneth Suddeth, James Harold Weatherby, Gary Jones, Jimmy Jones, and David Medlin.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Atrium in Bellmead and the Staff at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco.
