Carl (Charles) Frederick Grunert was born Jan 29, 1831 in the Königreich (Kingdom) of Sachsen (Saxony), Germany according to his death certificate. He listed his name as Carl F Gunner when he came to the US, and Charles Frederic Grunert on his eldest sons marriage certificate.

I'm not satisfied that Karl Gottfried Grünert and Johanna Rosina Kaden were his parents, as shown here in the March 31, 1831 birth record in Frankenberg (see pictures). There are just not enough facts to substantiate this. The Grunert family is known to have lived near Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany and Frankenberg is 5 miles NE of Chemnitz. I would like to see a fact, like his marriage record, linking Frederick to his parents. The Grunert name was common around Chemnitz, and there are many Frederick's.

About 1856 he married Augusta Bertha Werner in Saxony, Germany, likely the city of Mittweida. According to the 1900 Census for his wife Bertha, they had 16 children, and 6 were alive in 1900:

Gustav Walter Adolf born Feb 8, 1857 in Mittweida, Saxony, Germany (died 1924 S Milwaukee) married Christiana Kehres
Robert Friederick born May 26, 1860 in Saxony, Germany (died 1938 Milwaukee) married Pauline Brandau
Anna Bertha born Feb 26, 1868 in Saxony, Germany (died 1947 Milwaukee) married George Brandau
Frederick Jr born 1870 in Saxony, Germany (died between 1873 and 1880 in USA)
Mary born Jul 7, 1872 in Saxony, Germany (Died 1936 Milwaukee) married William Daniels
Louisa "Lizzie" Elisabeth born Jul 3, 1876 in Milwaukee (Died 1956 Milwaukee) married Charles Lindloff

Bertha and Frederick Grunert came to the US on May 27, 1873 landing in New York, aboard the ship 'City of Limerick'. I can not find a US Citizenship record for Frederick.

Frederick died March 16, 1895 and was buried on the 20th.
