Robert Friedrich Grunert was born May 26, 1860 in Saxony, Germany to Carl Frederick and Augusta Bertha Grunert (nee Werner). Robert came to the US with his family May 27, 1873 aboard the ship 'City of Limerick', which landed in New York. The family was living in Milwaukee by at least 1876, when his sister Lizzie was born. On June 1, 1880 he married Pauline Brandau in the town of Lake (Bay View) which is just South of Milwaukee, and they had at least 12 children, all born in Milwaukee, WI:

Heinrich stillborn 7/26/1881
Anna born 9/26/1884 (died 1884 Milwaukee)
Fred born 11/27/1887 (died 1929 Milwaukee) married Martha Knies
George born 9/28/1889 (Died 1951 IN) married Theresa Stochiwak
John Emil born 2/19/1891 (died 1962 Wauwatosa) married Mary Krietz
Anna born 10/30/1892 (died 2/6/1894 Milwaukee)
Anton (Anthony) born 3/30/1895 (died 1972 Milwaukee) married Margaret Stueber
Elizabeth "Lizzie" born 12/11/1897 (died 1991 Milwaukee) married Aloysius Czarnyszka/Carney/Carny, Robert Sine

Robert August born 4/19/1904 (died 1973 Waukesha County, WI) married Margaret Hering
Gladys Louisa born 11/27/1905 married Mr. Miller

I believe his wife died around 1926. Pauline is listed on a Milwaukee directory for 1926, but not for 1927. She is not listed in her son's obituary in 1929. Here are his Milwaukee directory listings during that time:
