Mabel was a daughter of Louis E. Pope and his first wife, Myrtle B. Ogle. She married Percy "Pete" F. Hanes, third of nine children born to David Q. Hanes and his wife, Nancy C. Moore. Mabel worked as a clerk in local bakery for many years. Mabel and Pete exchanged their wedding vows on November 25, 1920 in Papineau (Iroquois County), Illinois. They had seven children; twins Robert Earl (1922-1922) and Richard Merle (1922-1922), Catherine Noreen (1923-1989 m 1st Joe Sorernsen, m 2nd Kenneth Levey), Wayne Franklin (1925-1982), William Russell (1926-1964), Louis Edwin (1933-2004) and James Arthur (1934-2004). Mabel lived on Main Street in Downers Grove, Illinois; but died at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. Her cause of death was Ventricular Tachacardia (with acute myocardial infraction).
