Wayne was 4th child of Percy Franklin Hanes and Lulu Mabel Pope. Wayne was in the US Army during World War II; he participated in the "Battle of the Bulge". He was owner of Prince Crossing Stables on North Avenue in West Chicago, Illinois; where the Moore-Hanes annual family reunion was held for over two decades. Wayne married Beverly Orrine Mudd; a daughter of Orren Mudd and his wife, Hazel I. Fisk. Wayne and Bev celebrated their marriage on April 26, 1946 in Glen Ellyn (DuPage County), Illinois. They were blessed with a son, Curtis. The marriage ended in divorce in October 1965. Wayne married three more times; two ending in divorce and his fourth wife outlived him.

FAMILY NOTE: The following was written in a 1982 Christmas card to family and friends of Wayne, by his fourth wife Linda. "Those of us who loved Wayne will miss him dearly. Not only during the holiday season, but special occassions and times of need. He was a good husband who loved his family and cherished his friends above all else. He couldn't have left me in the hands of a greater group of people. Love to all, Linda [nee Wojtaszek]" There was a photo of Wayne on the left and on bottom right the inscription "Wayne Hanes (1925-1982)".
