Last Saturday, the news of the death of Wm. St. John, which took place at his home in Waupun, spread rapidly and expressions of grief were numerous and sincere. Mr. St. John formerly was a resident of this city, and owned the lumber-yard, which H. Thielke bought of him in 1892. Soon after the family moved to Waupun, where he again engaged in the lumber-business, which he conducted up to the time of his death, which took place Friday evening.

William St. John was born in Trumbull Co. Ohio Sept. 8, 1842. He came to Green Co. Wis. when quite young, and after one year's residence there, came to Dodge Co., where he has since lived. He was educated in the Horicon and Mayville High Schools and the Oshkosh Normal. In 1869 he was appointed principal at the Mayville school, which position he held for several years. He was married Aug. 2, 1875 to Miss Isabel Scoular. This union was blest with three children, two daughters, Jennie and Inez and one son, James.

He was a member of Vesper Lodge A., F. & A. M., under whose auspices the funeral services were conducted today. The remains were taken to Picketts Station, Winnebago Co. for burial. Mr. St. John was one of most highly respected citizens during the period of his residence here, and in his death, the citizens of Waupun lose a loyal fellow citizen. May he rest in peace
