Mrs. Ann St. John, who died Monday forenoon at 10:30 after being almost helpless for a couple of years, was born July 21, 1820 at Fayette county Pennsylvania. Drifting with her parents several years later to Ohio, she was married to Jacob St. John at Weathersfield, March 16, 1837. The family came to Algona about the year 1882. Here Jacob St. John passed away March 4, 1885, on the very day Cleveland was inaugurated.
After her husband's death Mrs. St. John made her home with her son Cyrus and family till about four years ago. Since that time till her death she lived with her son Perry and family, being cared for, during her period of helplessness, with a devotion by Mrs. St. John, which has elicited much favorable comment by her neighbors.
She was the mother of ten sons and four daughters. Her son Albert died in the army. Seven of her other children have also passed away. The six living are Calvin of Mapleton, Minn.; Jacob and Mrs. Amanda Rogers of Stevens Point, Wis.; Mrs. Hanna Bradley of Washington; and Cyrus and Perry of this place.
The funeral was held from the home yesterday afternoon, where kind neighbors viewed for the last time all that was mortal of the good woman. The services conducted by Rev. J. F. Porterfield were impressive. The interment was at Riverview Cemetery.
