He was born in Hungary and lived in Carteret 57 years. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church. He retired 7 years ago from the G.A.T.X. Co. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World Camp No. 89, St. George Society and the Holy Name Society of St. Elizabeth R.C. Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Szabo) Balka; two daughters, Mrs. Emma Gustavson and Mrs. Helen Bauer, both Carteret; seven sons, Frank, Carteret; Alexander Jr., Champagne, Ill; George, Carteret; William, Westfield; John, Woodbridge; Edward and Louis, both of Carteret and 11 grandchildren.
His son, Joseph was killed in World War II.
Funeral services were held Saturday at 8:30 A.M. at the Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Avenue and at 9 A.M. at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church where a high requiem mass was offered with Rev. Anthony Huber as celebrant. Interment was in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.
