Matthew H. Dickey was the son of James G. Dickey and Sarah Virginia Reeves. He married Margaret E. Campbell, said to be daughter of Robert Campbell and Nancy White, on April 28, 1853, in Franklin County, Tennessee. The couple migrated to Texas with his parents and brothers and sisters in 1855, first settling in Houston County. They later moved to Leon County.

Matt served in the Confederate army beginning in 1864 and served until the end of the war, in Timmons Regiment and in Wauls Legion.

Margaret died in 1865, and on January 28, 1868 he married Catharine Jane Manning, daughter of Mathew (one "t") Manning and Sarah Ernest. They had six more children, my grandmother being the third.

Matthew drew a Texas Confederate Pension from 1902 until his death. Jane preceded him in death by seven months.
