There is an unproven tradition among her sister's descendants that their mother was part native American. Jane's father was born in North Carolina, and her mother in Georgia.
Jane was married to Matthew Henderson Dickey on January 26, 1868, in Leon County. She was his second wife and was thirty-two when they were married. They raised the five sons from his first marriage (his daughter lived with her grandmother); they had six children of their own, of whom my grandmother was the third. Two of their children, Bellfield and Maggie, died as toddlers.
In the last years of her life, Jane and Matt lived with their married children. In 1910 they were living with "Cam," Robert Campbell Dickey. When she died, Jane was living with "Mattie," or Mrs. Luther (Martha Jane Dickey) Tubb.
