Howard M. Henry, 65, of Pleasant Hill, died in Illini Hospital in Pittsfield at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, after a short illness. Mr. Henry was born at Pleasant Hill, Nov. 18, 1894, a son of John and Ardelia Lewis Henry. He attended Pleasant Hill grade and high schools. He served with the armed forces in World War I. He was married to Marietta Bybee of Pleasant Hill in Quincy, October 23, 1923. They lived in Lombard, Ill., and Mr. Henry held the position of railway mail clerk until he retired seven years ago. He was one of the first clerks assigned for duty on the highway mail buses. After his retirement Mr. and Mrs. Henry returned to their farm on route 96, southeast of Pleasant Hill and made it a showplace by landscaping and flower gardening. After returning to Pleasant Hill Mr. Henry took part in civic activities and gave his time and financial aid to al community projects. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Quincy Consistory and Pleasant Hill Lions Club. Surviving are his widow; three brothers, James of Rockport and Harry and Ralph Henry of Pleasant Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Buell Shive and Mrs. J. L. Laugharn of Pleasant Hill. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held in the Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill, Friday afternoon at 2, with Rev. Joe Maynard and Rev. Rodney Miller officiating. Burial will be in Crescent Heights Cemetery.
