Mrs. Ardelia Henry of Pleasant Hill died at her home there last Wednesday, as the result of a stroke suffered a few days before. The funeral service was held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. D. V. Gowdy, assisted by Rev. Fred Peek of the Baptist Church. Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery. Nancy Ardelia Henry was born in Martinsburg Township September 3, 1858, and was the daughter of Rachael and James Oliver Lewis. She was united in marriage to John Anderson Henry August 1, 1880 who departed this life December 10, 1916. To this union nine children were born, Annie Shives, James, Harry, Ralph and Maude of Pleasant Hill, and Howard M. of Lombard, Jonnie, Hallie and Lester preceded her in death. She united with the Methodist Church in 1908 and remained a faithful member all these years. She was an earnest, consistent and consecrated christian. She learned and lived those virtues which mean so much to us--courage, economy, contentment, generosity, happiness and service. She had charge of the telephone office at Pleasant Hill for 29 years and served with credit this office of trust and responsibility. She leaves besides her children, fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a brother, Melvin Lewis of Pittsfield, and a sister Florence Austin of Quincy. Not only have the children lost a dear and loving mother but the whole community a citizen who will be sadly missed.
