Wayland T. Hensley, 78, of Sequoia Hills, died Saturday at Takoma Regional Hospital.

He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.

Mr. Hensley worked at Greene County Tire and Supply for 40 years.

He was member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and DeBusk Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years: Wilma "Billie" Hensley; a brother: Uyless Hensley of the DeBusk community; brother-in-law: Willard Cansler; sisters-in-law and spouses: Dorothy Ambrose and Kathleen Armitage of Greeneville, Cora Sheehan of Belmont, Calif., Faye Ambrose of the home, and Linda and Tommy Blazer of Mosheim;a brother-in-law: Glennie Ambrose of Mosheim; nieces and nephews (and their children): Matthew D. Ambrose, Hal Ambrose (Trey Ambrose), Kelly and Josh Jones (Garrison and Gracie Jones), Shannon and Mike Evans (Katie and Grace Evans), Mitzi and Kenny Helbert (Tasha, Brian, Hannah, and Maylan Bates), Larry and Amy Hensley (Matthew Hensley), Lynn and Patty Hensley (Libby and Johna Scott and Davey Hensley), Bobby Ambrose, Gary Ambrose, Sandra Ambrose, Pat and Gene Hall, Chris Collins, Bobby and Chic Collins, Randy and Kristen Cansler, Jerry Cansler, Rita Spears, Amy and Jimmy White (Ashley), and Shiela and Johnny Blazer (Chasity and J.J.); several other nieces and nephews; his stepmother: Mae Beals; and special friends: Cecil and Ruth Norton and June Laughlin.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Clark and Stella Sawyers Hensley; brothers and sisters-in-law: Clifford and Vernish Hensley, Arlond Hensley, C.D. and Geraldine Humphreys Hensley, and Lois Hensley; an infant brother and an infant sister; brothers-in-law: Dewey Ambrose, Dubb Ambrose, Jack Armitage, Jerry Sheehan, and Byrle Logan; and sisters-in-law: Maye Cansler and Sue Logan.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the downtown chapel of Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service.

The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the downtown chapel. The Rev. Homer Roller and Rev. Joe Miller will officiate.

Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. The Greene County Honor Guard will convey a military graveside service.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Joe Austin and the staff of Greeneville Internal Medicine, Cecil Norton, Gary Norton, Hack Wilhoit, Dwight Hunt, Mike Fletcher, Willie Patterson, Buzz Reynolds, Cordell Fletcher, Terry Douthat, Chris Douthat, and David King.
