Mabelle Jeannette NELSON died January 6, 2009 at a Watertown, South Dakota nursing home age 86. She was born February 13, 1922 in Sherman, Minnehaha county, South Dakota, the 7th of nine children of Ivrin RISLOV and Lydia DOCKEN.

She married Melvin NELSON, February 28, 1948 and they lived on a farm north of Wallace, SD until his death in April 1972. She was survived by two daughters and a son and their spouses-in Watertown, SD, Clark, SD; and Wallace, SD; a sister, Ada of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother and his wife of Cooperstown, ND, and a brother and his wife of Watertown, SD.

Mabelle was baptized at Highland Lutheran Church in Sherman; attended country school near Sherman and finished school in Dexter township. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Jasper, MN and then attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. After Melvin's death, she lived at the farm until 1991, then moved to Watertown. She baked cakes for all occasions and won a cake baking contest sponsored by the Codington-Clark Electric Co-op in May of 1960. Mabelle cooked at Pickerel Lake Bible Camp for many years.

She was a member of the St. Pauli Lutheran Church until it closed, and Calvary Lutheran Church in Wallace where she held various offices and enjoyed quilting with her church women friends. She was also a member of Sons of Norway, Hospital Auxiliary, Extension Club for over 50 years, and was a member of the Watertown Women's Bowling Association for 12 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, playing bridge, and croquet.

Her funeral was January 10, 2009 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Wallace, SD; interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD.
