Elizabeth always had a large garden and tended it well, had a large fruit cellar and always had plenty to carry the family through the winter months. From where their house was located, it was a difficult trip to town for supplies, and she always made sure she had everything she would need for the cold long winter months,. All the family had work to do and were always willing to do their fair share of it.
