Sarah Bowersock was born on 2 Mar 1852 in Washington county, Ohio, the daughter of John L. Bowersock & Elizabeth Wood. At 18 years of age she married a local farm boy from Lawrence township, Samuel Thatcher, son of Daniel Thatcher & the late Mary Ann Steen. They were married in Washington county on 3 Sep 1870, and they made their home in Lawrence township for the next 12 or so years.

By 1885 the family moved to Springfield township in St. Croix county, Wisconsin, where most of her husband's extended family had relocated along with a number of other allied families from the Washington county area of Ohio. They farmed there for about a dozen years before moving to a nearby farm in Stanton township of Dunn county.

Sam Thatcher died around 4 Aug 1919. Sarah died on 10 Feb 1923 in Stanton township.

Mrs. Sam Thatcher, a pioneer resident of Dunn county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ike Swisher, in the town of Stanton, on Feb 10, at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

Sarah Bowersock was born in Marietta, Ohio, on March 2, 1847, where she passed her childhood days. She was united in marriage to Samuel Thatcher in 1865 at Marietta, Ohio, and came to the town of Stanton 46 years ago. To this union sixteen children were born, six having preceded her in death. The surviving children who are left to mourn her loss are: John, Thomas, Ed, and Henry, Mrs. Maggie Swisher and Mrs Addie Hughes, all of Stanton; Mrs. Ella Piatt and Mrs. Eliza Malean, both of Lucas, and Mrs. Emma Robideaux of Seattle, Wash., besides 30 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The deceased was baptized in the Methodist church and has been a member of that church all her life. She was a good and dutiful mother, a kind neighbor and friend, with a good word for all with whom she came in contact.

Funeral services were held from the Knapp M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. R. H. Mercer officiating. Interment was made at Teegarden cemetery beside her husband, who died a few years ago.
