Discription of the home of James and Elizabeth Rogers Newport Washington County Ohio. as told to me by their grandaughter, Goldie Ball-Wilcox: Living Room Mantle over open fire place, with bric a brack, tall pump 6 octabe organ and stool, I setee with matching chair, dark green velvet, round stand with oil lamp, had flowers painted on the bottom half with a large round shade to match. oblong table across corner of the room on which family picture album and large Holy Bible were placed. Lace curtains at the windows but no drapes, woven rag carpet later replaced with x-minster 9x12 rug. Kitchen 6 burner coal stove, later converted to gas water tank on side of stove, warming closet on top of stove. Drop leaf table and 4 chairs, Built in cupboard, fair size pantry, 1 small work table. Dining room Tallcupboard, glass doors on upper part, 1 long drawer, 2 small doors below 1 shelf. 1st floor bedroom Open fire place, with mantle, tall wooden clock on top. 2 wooden rockers 1 on each side of the fire place, dresser with large mirroe, 2 drawers on either side, the top was a large piece of marble with boxed drawer on each side of the large mirror. 2 bed rooms upstairs, hall between them Back bedroom double bed, dresser with oil lamp chair clothers closet Front bed room 2 beds, oblong table with oil lamp, woven rag rug on floors of each bedroom.

He married Elizabeth Jane Bowersock June 26, 1862. He was the father of 16 children: 12 if whom are living- 4 boys and 8 girls, 33 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, His wife survives with the following children: Albert, Constitution, Ohio Mrs. James Russell, Mrs. C,A. Hardman, Mrs Frank Campbell,all of Marietta.Mrs. Samuel Doyle of Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. James Travis and Mrs. George Moreland of Sistersville, W. Va. Mrs. Hugh Northrop.of Bens Run, W Va. ,Edward and Mrs James Dye of Elinsville, Texas. Otto of Reno and William at home. Two sisters, Mrs. George Early of Marrietta and Mrs. Nelson Hull of Hopkins, Mo. One brother Samuel Rogers Grape Island, W. Va. All the children were at his bedside except Mrs. James Dye of Texas, who had just returned home. He was patient through all his sickness and had not a shadow nor a doubt of fear but knew he was saved. Two days before his death he asked for the 14th chapter of John be read and said, " Oh, those blessed words." Then he was ready to go at the Lord's calling.
