Elmer Gumm, a young farmer southwest of Barrett, KS was found dead in his car, late yesterday afternoon in a pasture of his fathers farm one and one half miles northwest of Frankfort, Kansas. He had ended his own life by inhaling monoxide gas from the exhaust of his automobile.
The tragedy was discovered by his brother William Gumm shortly before 6:00 p.m. when discovered, the motor was still running. Elmer was seated in the drivers front seat of the car, and was dressed in work clothes. His hat and gloves and a note was beside him. Scribbled on a cream check, he bade farewell to his wife and boys. He had been worrying about financial affairs, for the past few weeks,
and it is believed that this was the cause.
Elmer was a good, honest, hard working young man who had spent most of his life in farming. He was always good
natured. He is survived by his wife and three sons,
Floyd, Harold and Virgil; his parents Mr.and Mrs. Fred Gumm, Frankfort, KS, four sisters, Mrs. Alta Harry, Winifred, KS, Ethel Gumm and Mrs. Edith Bloomdahl of the home, and Mrs. Fred Morton, near Frankfort, KS; two
brothers, Fred William Gumm and Robert Gumm, of the home.
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Bigelow, KS on Thursday, June 9, 1932 at 2:00 p.m.
Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery, southwest of Frankfort, KS.
