Ruebn T. Abeya, age 77, of Doña Ana, entered eternal life on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center.
Ruben was born on August 22, 1934 in Abeytas, NM to Santiago and Andrea Sánchez Abeyta.
Ruben received a bachelor's degree in English from University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, retired as an investigator from the United States Federal Government- Personnel Management.
Ruben was a volunteer at the Community of Hope, enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Ruben was a communicant of Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church where he was a Eucharist Minister and a Lector.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Pauline Sánchez Abeyta of the family home, three sons, Ronald Abeyta and Leonard Abeyta, both of Tucson, AZ, Leon Abeyta and his wife, Jackie of Socorro, NM, two daughters, Bernadine Naylor and her husband, Jody and Lita Abeyta of Las Cruces, six sisters, Mela Sánchez of Mesa, AZ, Sr. Angelina Abeyta of Grand Rapids, MI, Sr. Dolores Abeyta and Greg Esquivel both of Albuquerque, Angelina Trujillo and her husband, Sesario of Belén and Dolores Durán and her husband, Benjamin of Rio Rancho. Other survivors include eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruben was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Isabel Baca and a granddaughter, Justine Frances Naylor.
Visitation for Mr. Abeyta will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2012 in Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey in Doña Ana where the Recitation of the Holy Rosary is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. led by Deacon Dan Check. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter with Fathers of Augustinian Recollects, officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in the Doña Ana Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. Serving as casket bearers will be Brian Petracca, Jacob Abeyta, Timothy Abeyta, Ruben James Abeyta, Matthew and Isaac Carrillo. Honorary bearers will be Jennifer Murray, Roberta Abeyta and Jessica Carrillo.
The family would like to extend their sincere thank you to Dr. León and Dr. Reynolds as well as the CCU Staff at Memorial Medical Center for their help and excellent care given to our loved one.
