John Atwood's funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. John Barnard

In a will dated 22 Nov 1675, John Wood Sr of Plymouth bequeathed his entire estate to his wife, Sarah, and to be distributed to his children after his death. A double portion went to his son John, equal portions to the remaining children, not listed. In Mar 1675/1676 the estate administered by Nathaniel in place of John Jr who had died recently. [1714 is incorrect?] Children listed were Isaac Wood, Mistress Mary Holmes a widow, Sarah Fallowell, Abigail Leonard, Merced, Elizabeth and Hannah Wood.

"On 24 Jun 1685 NATHANIEL WOOD, alias ATTWOOD of New Plymouth, New England sold to Mr. Nathaniel Clarke of said town for 4 pounds, his portion of land in Plymouth, mentioning, "Sarah, my mother, relect widdow of my late father, John Wood alias Attwood; & Mary, Sarah, Abigaill, Mercy, Elizabeth & Hannah, my sisters, the daughteres of the said John Wood. On the same day the widow, Sarah; Mary the wife of Major William Bradford, Sarah, the relct of John Followay/Fallowell; Mercy Wood and Hannah Wood released their rights in the land." Caleb Nye, husband of Elizabeth also released his rights.

From Ye Atte Wode Annals:
John Atwood was admitted to 2d church in 1675; bought house on "Middle St." Boston, 1681; Deacon, 1693; Lieut, Artillery Co. 1695, and appears on records as Captain; sold property in Snow Lane, 1703.

John's will (Probate date 18 Aug 1714, Probate Records, Vol 17-18, 1709-1715, case 3671) gave everything to his beloved wife, Mary.

Mary's name is recorded as Mary Smith in their 1690 marriage file.

There is a John Atwood baptized in Boston on Oct 10 1647, 5 days old, his father was Hermon Atwood. (?) No mother is mentioned.

Other possible parents would be Harmon Atwood and Ann Copp, but they were married 11 Jun 1646 in Boston, which is before the eldest daughter, Mary, the wife of Major William Bradford, born in 1643. It is supposed that Harmon is a brother of the original John Wood. The Cranston Family Record lists:
* William Atte Wode c 1278
* Peter Atte Wode, held Wood Place bef 1313
* William Atte Wode
* Geoffrey Atte Wode, owned Hooley House at Wood Place 1345

* Nicholas Wood died 1586, married Olive Harmon, 7 sons, 2nd and 7th were named John. Grave is at the church at Sanderstead. Widow married John Buck who did in 1603.
* John Atwood, 5th son, probably this John's (1647-1714) line
* Harmon who came to America in 1642, line goes to Charles Atwood
