John worked at the Hochbgreve Brewery located in the township of Allouez across from the Allouez Catholic Cemetery. He and his wife (and perhaps three children) lived in a house near the brewery. The grocery business began when John's wife, Mary, started baking and selling bread. The Biebels then began carrying a few groceries, thus turning their house into a small grocery store. In 1903 they purchased an existing store at 1400 E. Mason Street from Pete Wiggers. It was a typical dry goods store of the time with dry goods, ladies' ready to wear, hardware, barrels of product and of course canned good and other groceries. He operated the store for a total of 46 years. This is the store that his son Ray took over and later Ray's son Paul. When Mason Street was widened in 1974, the store relocated to 1234 Bellevue Street in Green Bay, WI and expanded to include a catering business. In 1953, Biebel's Store celebrated its 50th Anniversary. John had been a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for 50 years and also a member of the Catholic Knights and the Holy Name Society of the Cathedral.
