David Washinton Pippin was born to John William and Delia Alduth Shelton Pippin, on February 7, 1907, in Childress, Texas. His mother and father had five other children together and they were Louis Theophalus, Gilbert, Vinnie Lea, Anna Mae, and Eunice Sebena Pippin. David's father had been married once before to Frances Olivia Darter and so he had three half siblings. His half siblings were Francis Marion, Ira W. and Pearl M. Pippin. His family were farmers and at one time his father worked as a Blacksmith.

On April 2, 1931, David married Willie Lee "Billie" Reed, in Poteet. Together they had six children and they were David Weldon, Frances Olivia, Jack Harlan and Loretta, and Sam Dwane Pippin. At the age of 41, David passed away.
