Mr. Finigan found the door braced inside with a stick, pushed it open and discovered the body hanging from a rafter. The victim had placed the knot of the noose under the point of his chin and died from a broken neck and strangulation. Two small boxes near the body he had apparently kicked from under him.
The troopers said he left three notes, one addressed to his sister, Mrs. Jacob Baldwin of Milford. Mr. Milks retired from farming ten years ago on account of ill health. Born in the town of Westford June 29, 1867, the son of Horace and Laney (Nellis) Milks, he formerly operated a farm at Elk Creek. He suffered poor eyesight and hearing.
