Mr. Vaughan was the senior member of Vaughan & Vaughan legal firm, he was attorney and legal counsel for Bishop John J. Carberry, Lafayette Diocese, and St. Elizabeth Hospital. He had practiced law in Lafayette for 45 years. He was a member and past president of Tippecanoe County Bar Association, a member of the Indiana State and American Bar Associations, Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, and Indianapolis Bar Association.
He was also a member of the Notre Dame and Indiana University Alumni Associations; past state president of Fraternal Order of Eagles, and past president and member of Aerie 347; a past member of American Legion Post 11; Rotary International and Lafayette Country Club. He also was a charter member of the board of The Notre Dame Foundation.
During World War I, he was in the U.S. Navy, and in World War II was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve Intelligence Division.
Surviving with his widow are five children, Jack Vaughan of Lafayette, Mrs. Ferris [Mary] Traylor of Evansville, Miss Marjorie Vaughan of Lafayette, Mrs. J. Douglas [Colleen] Myers of Logansport, and Charles R. Vaughan, a partner of the law firm; his brother, James E. Vaughan, also a partner in the firm; and 13 grandchildren.
