Corning, Tehama Co. - Funeral services for Vernon William Flournoy, 65, city superintendent of public works, were held Thursday in the First United Presbyterian Church.
Flournoy died Wednesday in Corning Memorial Hospital of an apparent heart attack.

A native of Corning, and lifelong resident of the area, he was engaged in raising livestock and had served as city superintendent since 1961. Interested in sports programs, he was a charter member of the Corning High School Cardinal Booster Club.
Flournoy is survived by his wife, Lucille; a daughter, Bonnie Hassay; his mother, Loretta Flournoy; brothers, Burnley and Bill and three grandchildren, all of Corning, and a brother George Flournoy of Orland.
The family requests any remembrances be made to the Corning Union High School football fund.
