George E Flournoy Sr was born in Corning, CA to Chester and Loretta Schugart Flournoy on November 24, 1933 and passed away at his home on July 16, 2017 following a brief illness. The Flournoys are a well known and old time family for which the town was named. George attended Flournoy Grammer School and Corning High School. He loved all sports, was a diehard Giants and Niners fan and never missed attending the Red Bluff Roundup or the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sale. He worked in the arena at the Red Bluff Roudnup in the 1960's and 1970's and judged the working stock dogs at the Red Bluff Bull and Gelding Sal for many years. He was a gifted stockman and horseman (mules too!), an excellent roper and was always in demand with local ranchers for gathering and brandings. He raised and trained registered Border Collies and his dogs competed at the local level. George raised commercial and registered sheep, Boar goats and cattle, was a member of the Cattlemen's and Woolgrowers Association and served on the California Ram Sale sifting committee. He was a board member of the Flournoy Grammer school and Corning Union High School, and a member of the Corning Union High School Booster Club. And as an avid houndsman and hunter, he guided bear, lion and deer hunters in the Western U.S. and assisted in mountain lion research with the Department of Fish and Game. George is survived by his wife Sandy Flournoy, DVM; George Flournoy, Jr (Suzanne), Lana Flournoy Trede (John Trede) and John (Julia) Flournoy. He is also survived by grandchildren Justin Trede, Destry Trede, Amy Flournoy, Grover Flournoy and Harvest Flournoy, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Vern, CB (Bike) and Bill Flournoy and grandson Clancy Flournoy. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Paskenta Community Hall at 2pm, on August 12, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the California Houndsman Association.
