Edmond Nelson was born 12 December 1799 in Orange County, North Carolina to Thomas Burton Nelson and Martha (Patsy) Williams. He had six siblings: Millie Williams, James, Abraham, Hyrum, Thomas and Martha. He married Jane Taylor 3 October 1820 in Waterloo, Monroe, Illinois. They had thirteen children: Price William, Elizabeth, Martha, Rhoda Elizabeth, Hyrum, William Goforth, Mary Jane, Thomas Billington, Joseph Smith, Nancy, Edmond, Mark, and Anna. Edmond died 13 December 1850 in Mountainville (Alpine), Utah. He was the first person buried in the Alpine Cemetery.Marker on his grave - reads as follows - Born Dec 12 1799 in North Carolina. He and wife, Nelson, Jane Taylor and twelve children left Mt Pisgah May 08 1850 arribing in Salt Lake Valley. - Sept 09 and continued on to Mountainville (Alpine) Sept 13 1850. While living in Mt Pisgah, Edmund and most of the family were stricken with chills and fever from which he never recovered. He died Dec 13 1850 and was buried on this little knoll - north of Alpine. Hundreds have since been buried there. - but Nelson, Edmund was the first.
