Jane was born in Davidson, Tennessee to Billington Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Modglin. She had thirteen siblings: Matthew, Mary, Sarah, Rhoda, Nancy, Mathew Modgolin, Sally, Martha Bruce, Billington, Rhonda Winters, Celia, Martha (Patsy), and Nancy. She married Edmond Nelson on October 3, 1820, in Waterloo, Monroe, Illinois. They had thirteen children - Price William, Elizabeth, Martha, Rhoda Elizabeth, Hyrum, William Goforth, Mary Jane, Thomas Billington, Joseph Smith, Nancy, Edmond, Mark, and Anna. They crossed the plains with the Mormon Pioneers and settled in Alpine, Utah. She died in Franklin, Idaho, and is buried there.
